Vella Privacy Policy
Innov8 Software, Inc. (“Vella,” "Vella.ai,” “we,” “our,” and/or “us”) is a service designed to help you manage communications you receive from emails, social media, bookmarks and other accounts that you choose to link with our service. We value the privacy of individuals who use our application and website (collectively, our “Services”). This privacy policy (the “Privacy Policy”) explains how we collect, use, and share information from users of our Services (“Users”). By using our Services, you agree to the collection, use, disclosure, and procedures this Privacy Policy describes. Beyond the Privacy Policy, your use of our Services is also subject to our Terms of Service (https://www.vella.ai/terms-of-service).
Information We Collect
Vella primarily functions as a privacy-first email client designed to efficiently manage your email communications, with supplementary smart feed capabilities that enhance information organization and productivity. We may collect a variety of information from or about you or your devices from various sources, as described below.
A. Information You Provide to Us.
Registration and Account Set Up.
When you sign up for an account, we collect authentication information such as your name, email, password, and wallet public key. Vella also supports SSO login through Google or social media accounts, where we only request enough information to authenticate, including name, email address and social media login ID. The registration and authentication information may be stored on our servers.
Communications.
If you contact us directly, we may receive additional information about you. For example, when you contact our Customer Support Team, we will receive your name, email address, the contents of a message or attachments that you may send to us, and other information you choose to provide. If you subscribe to our newsletter or sign up for notifications or updates, then we will collect certain information from you, such as your email address. When we send you emails, we may track whether you open them to learn how to deliver a better customer experience and improve our Services.
Careers.
If you decide that you wish to apply for a job with us, you may submit your contact information and your resume online. We will collect the information you choose to provide on your resume, such as your education and employment experience. You may also apply through LinkedIn. If you do so, we will collect the information you make available to us on LinkedIn.
B. Information We Collect When You Use Our Services.
Regular Use of Our Mobile App.
Regular use of our mobile app involves connecting your Google account or other third-party email services (such as Outlook) to load your emails and provide associated services. Users may connect additional services, such as calendars, social media accounts, bookmark products, address books, and travel applications, to enhance information management, contextual recommendations, and productivity tools. The information sourced from external integrations is only viewable by the authenticated User. By default, we support encrypted synchronization of your content feed across devices, so Users can access their feed from the web. Users can opt out of encrypted sync by sending an email to support@Vella.ai.
Location Information.
When you use our Services, if you give us permission, we receive your precise location information to help personalize your use of our Services. We also infer your general location information, for example by using your internet protocol (IP) address.
Device Information.
We receive information about the device and software you use to access our Services, including IP address, web browser type, operating system version, phone carrier and manufacturer, application installations, device identifiers, mobile advertising identifiers, device dimensions, and push notification tokens.
Usage Information.
To help us understand how you use our Services and to help us improve them, we automatically receive information about your interactions with our Services, like our mobile and web pages that you view, buttons pressed, the searches you conduct, and the dates and times of your visits. Content you view through Vella is not collected by our servers. Rather, that information is only stored in-device to provide our Services and improve future recommendations.
Your Contacts.
If you permit us to access the address book on your device, we may access names and contact information from your address book to facilitate drafting emails, spam detection, invitations and social interactions that you initiate through our Services and for other purposes described in this privacy policy or at the time of consent or collection. We also collect your contacts if you invite them to use our Services or share information or content with them from our Services.
Information from Cookies and Similar Technologies.
We and our third-party partners collect information using cookies, pixel tags, or similar technologies. Our third-party partners, such as analytics and advertising partners, may use these technologies to collect information about your online activities. Cookies are small text files containing a string of alphanumeric characters. We may use both session cookies and persistent cookies. A session cookie disappears after you close your browser. A persistent cookie remains after you close your browser and may be used by your browser on subsequent visits to our Services.
Please review your web browser’s “Help” file to learn the proper way to modify your cookie settings. Please note that if you delete or choose not to accept cookies from the Service, you may not be able to utilize the features of the Service to their fullest potential.
C. Information from Third-Party Services.
If you choose to link our Services to a third-party account, our mobile app may access information about you, including your profile information, followed companies, group memberships, and your activity on the third-party account. Vella servers do not collect or access this information. Rather, the mobile app uses these data points to create deeper personalization when pulling content from these platforms for your feed.
Google User Data.
When you connect your Google account to our Services, we access specific Google user data, including your email address, basic profile information, and, with your explicit consent, data from Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Contacts. This access is strictly limited to the data necessary to provide and enhance the functionality of our Services. Our servers do not access or store emails, attachments, or any email metadata, except in limited scenarios where a larger language model (LLM) or external request (such as flight information) is required to extract specific information from emails. Such requests are transient and processed securely without storing any related data on our servers. We explicitly do not use any data derived from these processes for model training or other improvement activities. Our privacy-first commitment prioritizes in-device processing whenever possible.
We utilize the accessed Google user data solely to deliver and improve our Services. This includes organizing your emails, managing calendar events, curating content and integrating contacts to streamline your digital life. We do not use this data for advertising purposes or any unrelated activities.
We do not share, sell, or disclose your Google user data to third parties, except as required to operate our Services or comply with legal obligations. Any sharing of data is conducted with your explicit consent and in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
We implement industry-standard security measures to safeguard your Google user data. This includes encryption in transit and at rest, secure authentication protocols, and regular security assessments to prevent unauthorized access, disclosure, or modification of your data.
We retain your Google user data only for as long as necessary to provide our Services to you. You have the right to request the deletion of your data at any time by contacting us at support@Vella.ai. Upon such a request, we will promptly delete your data from our systems, unless retention is required by law.
We confirm that we do not use Google Workspace APIs to develop, improve, or train generalized artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML) models. Our use of these APIs is strictly confined to providing the Services as described in this Privacy Policy.
Additional Limits on Use of Your Google User Data
Notwithstanding other sections of this Privacy Policy, when Vella accesses your Google data, usage is strictly governed by these additional limitations:
● Vella will not use Gmail data for advertising purposes.
● Vella will use Gmail message metadata, headers, and attachment information solely to provide email management services (e.g., summarize, delete, move, archive actions). Gmail data will not be transferred unless necessary to deliver or enhance these services, to comply with applicable laws, or in events such as mergers or asset sales.
● Human access to Gmail data is strictly prohibited unless explicitly authorized by you, required for security measures (such as abuse investigations), legal compliance, or internal operations; even in these cases, data access will only occur with aggregated and anonymized data.
● Our use of Google API data strictly complies with Google API Services User Data Policy, including Limited Use requirements."
How We Use the Information We Collect
Vella is a privacy-first company, we follow a “no one in between” approach where our servers do not have access to your private information including raw emails, social media content or bookmarks. For scenarios like flight tracking and searching for content, your device requests anonymized requests like content based on interests, Status & gate number Flight numbers. In some cases where in device processing is not enough the application may request parsing an a travel email or a purchase email by a larger LLM. Users can opt-out or provide their own LLM keys.
We use the information we collect on our servers:
● To understand and analyze how you use our Services and develop new products, services, features, and functionality;
● To communicate with you, provide you with updates and other information relating to our Services, provide information that you request, respond to comments and questions, and otherwise provide customer support;
● To send you push notifications;
● To facilitate transactions and payments;
● To find and prevent fraud, and respond to trust and safety issues that may arise;
● For compliance purposes, including enforcing our TOS or other legal rights, or as may be required by applicable laws and regulations or requested by any judicial process or governmental agency;
● For other purposes for which we provide specific notice at the time the information is collected.
The mobile app uses the information collected to:
● To provide, maintain, improve, and enhance our Services, including our system that ranks the content that feeds into our mobile app and email features that help you view, summarize, organize and respond to emails;
● To personalize your experience on our Services such as by providing tailored content and recommendations;
● To update your status on your social networks, to send messages on your behalf to your social networks, and to provide other features and services to you;
● To facilitate the connection of third-party services or applications, such as social networks, content feeds, and assistant features like ‘Expenses this week’ and ‘Game scores’;
● To generate anonymized, aggregate reports on content quality and relevance;
Privacy-First Data Handling:
Vella is a privacy-first company following a “no one in between” approach, meaning our servers do not have access to your private information, including raw emails, social media content, or bookmarks. For services such as flight tracking and content searches, your device sends anonymized requests that include interests for content recommendation & flight numbers for flight status and gate information. When device-level processing is insufficient, the application may process emails (such as travel or purchase confirmations) through larger Language Models (LLMs). Users can opt out or provide their own LLM keys for these processing tasks.
Data Retention
As mentioned above, Vella does not keep information on users. All cancelled subscriptions are automatically deactivated at the end of the paid period. If for any reason, we decide to close Vella, all users will be contacted by email and their account information will be securely deleted from our servers in a timely manner. User's can request deletion of analytics data by contacting support@vella.ai.
How We Share the Information We Collect
Vendors and Service Providers. We may share any information we receive with vendors and service providers retained in connection with the provision of our Services.
Third-Party App Integrations. If you connect a third-party application to our Services, we may share activity information, such as view events or upvote actions taken on the Vella feed, with that third party. Personal data is not shared with third party providers without User initiation. The feed may make recommendations for connecting with people on third party platforms, but the platforms only receive information when the User goes to the platform to complete the recommendation. For example, if we suggest you connect with a person in your address book on LinkedIn, LinkedIn doesn’t receive any information until the User clicks the button that sends the User to LinkedIn to connect with the individual in the address book.
Social Networks and Other Online Services. Our Services allow you to, upon your direction, share information with social networking services, such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. You understand and agree that the use of your information by any social networking websites will be governed by the privacy policies of these third-party platforms and your settings on that platform. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.
Analytics Partners. We use analytics services such as Posthog, Mixpanel, Google Analytics and Segment to collect and process certain analytics data. These services may also collect information about your use of other websites, apps, and online resources. Advertising Partners. We work with third-party advertising partners to show you ads that we think may interest you. Our partners make their best effort to prevent surveillance. Our mobile app selects relevant advertisements from information stored in-app instead of leveraging our advertising partners. Some of our advertising partners are members of the Network Advertising Initiative (https://optout.networkadvertising.org) or the Digital Advertising Alliance (https://optout.aboutads.info). If you do not wish to receive personalized ads, please visit their opt-out pages to learn about how you may opt out of receiving web-based personalized ads from member companies. You can access any settings offered by your mobile operating system to limit ad tracking, or you can install the AppChoices mobile app to learn more about how you may opt out of personalized ads in mobile apps.
Merger, Sale, or Other Asset Transfers. We may transfer your information to service providers, advisors, potential transactional partners, or other third parties in connection with the consideration, negotiation, or completion of a corporate transaction in which we are acquired by or merged with another company or we sell, liquidate, or transfer all or a portion of our assets. The use of your information following any of these events will be governed by the provisions of this Privacy Policy in effect at the time the applicable information was collected.
Consent. We may also disclose your information with your permission.
Your Choices
Location Information. You can prevent your device from sharing precise location information at any time through your device’s operating system settings.
Marketing Communications. You can unsubscribe from our promotional emails via the link provided in the emails. Even if you opt out of receiving promotional messages from us, you will continue to receive administrative messages from us.
Do Not Track. There is no accepted standard on how to respond to Do Not Track signals, and we do not respond to such signals.
Third Parties
Our Services may contain links to other websites, products, or services that we do not own or operate. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. Please be aware that this Privacy Policy does not apply to your activities on these third-party services or any information you disclose to these third parties. We encourage you to read their privacy policies before providing any information to them.
Security
We make reasonable efforts to protect your information by using physical and electronic safeguards designed to improve the security of the information we maintain. However, as no electronic transmission or storage of information can be entirely secure, we can make no guarantees as to the security or privacy of your information.
Children’s Privacy
We do not knowingly collect, maintain, or use personal information from children under 13 years of age, and no part of our Services are directed to children. If you learn that a child has provided us with personal information in violation of this Privacy Policy, then you may alert us at support@Vella.ai.
International Visitors
Our Services are hosted in the United States and intended for visitors located within the United States. If you choose to use the Services from the European Union or other regions of the world with laws governing data collection and use that may differ from U.S. law, then please note that you are transferring your personal information outside of those regions to the United States for storage and processing. Also, we may transfer your data from the U.S. to other countries or regions in connection with storage and processing of data, fulfilling your requests, and operating the Services. By providing any information, including personal information, on or to the Services, you consent to such transfer, storage, and processing.
Update Your Information
You can update your account and profile information or close your account through your profile settings.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We will post any adjustments to the Privacy Policy on this page, and the revised version will be effective when it is posted. If we materially change the ways in which we use or share personal information previously collected from you through the Services, we will notify you through the Services, by email, or other communication.
